Water, Desalination & Power
YEAR 2023
Red Sea 50,000 m³/day SWRO Desalination Plant
Ain Sokhna, Suez, Egypt
CLIENT: General Authority for Water & Sanitation
Project Overview
A crucial municipal water infrastructure asset delivering 50,000 m³ of potable water per day to industrial and residential zones along the Gulf of Suez. RE Consultant was engaged for complete MEP auxiliary plant design, medium voltage distribution auditing, and resident engineering site supervision.
Technical Solution
- High-Pressure Piping & Metallurgy: Engineered 70-bar rated discharge manifolds utilizing Super Duplex Stainless Steel (UNS S32750) and glass-reinforced epoxy (GRE) low-pressure intake piping, rigorously protected against pitting corrosion.
- Energy Recovery Optimization: Integrated isobaric energy recovery devices (PX technology) recycling hydraulic pressure from concentrated brine streams, lowering specific energy consumption to 2.95 kWh/m³.
- Medium Voltage Infrastructure: Designed a dual-feed 22 kV indoor Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation, active harmonic filters, and soft-starter VFD systems eliminating grid voltage sag during high-capacity feed pump starts.
Operational Reliability
Achieved uninterrupted commercial operation with zero hydraulic water hammer incidents verified through transient flow modeling using Bentley HAMMER.
