FEATURED CASE STUDY
YEAR 2024
Great Transfiguration Spiritual & Cultural Center
Saint Catherine, Sinai, Egypt
CLIENT: New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA)
Project Overview
Located in the UNESCO World Heritage buffer zone of Saint Catherine, the Great Transfiguration Cultural Center is an iconic cultural landmark that merges ancient mountain topography with state-of-the-art sustainable engineering. RE Consultant engineered the mechanical climate control, concealed firefighting, and electrical infrastructure.
Technical Solution
- Concealed Displacement Climate Control: Deployed underfloor displacement ventilation systems with low face-velocity architectural diffusers, preserving the stone walls and vaulted timber ceiling aesthetics without exposed ductwork.
- Sub-Zero Freeze Protection: Engineered closed-loop hydronic heating circuits utilizing propylene glycol anti-freeze solutions, electric heat tracing on critical domestic water and fire risers, and high-efficiency condensing boilers rated for high-altitude combustion.
- Architectural Lighting & Smart Controls: Implemented DALI-2 addressable lighting automation with daylight harvesting sensors and scene control, accentuating ecclesiastical architecture while reducing connected electrical load by 35%.
Sustainability Achievement
Maintained zero visual intrusion across primary cultural exhibition halls and met national environmental agency constraints for fragile ecological zones.
