FEATURED CASE STUDY
YEAR 2023
Al-Azhar University STEM & Research Complex
Assiut Campus, Egypt
CLIENT: Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research
Project Overview
A multi-facility research complex comprising specialized biological, chemical, and physics laboratories, large lecture auditoriums, and administrative wings. RE Consultant was selected to deliver end-to-end MEP engineering design and full BIM coordination up to LOD 400.
Technical Solution
- Laboratory Pressurization & Fume Exhaust: Designed dynamic variable air volume (VAV) venturi air valves integrated into laboratory fume hoods, maintaining negative pressure cascading (-15 Pa) to contain volatile chemical vapors.
- Acoustic Mitigation for Auditoriums: Engineered duct silencers, low-velocity supply air dispersion systems, and vibration isolators for rooftop air handling units, achieving stringent Noise Criterion (NC-25) standards across 500-seat auditoriums.
- Fire Life Safety & Suppression: Designed wet-pipe automatic sprinkler networks alongside localized clean-agent gaseous fire suppression (Novec 1230) for server rooms, electronic archives, and delicate spectrometer laboratories.
Engineering Impact
Energy consumption lowered by 24% through sensible and latent heat recovery wheels installed on dedicated 100% outdoor air handling units (DOAS).
